Celeste invited me to join her aboard the Sunlight on Water, for another dolphin adventure along the northern coast. The Captain, China Mike, embodies the Huna spirit of Hawaii. The moment I stepped on his boat, I could feel the palpable resonance of profound love and respect. A tingling sensation flowed up through my feet & into my chest, then radiated from my heart to my head and out to my fingertips.
Once we cleared the harbor, ‘China’ cut the motor and performed his daily Hawaiian Ceremony in honor of Mother Ocean & her Inhabitants and the Gods of Hawaii. My heart was activated with the harmonic frequency of love & divine appreciation. It felt like bathing in a warm pool of soothing energy.
Within moments of restarting the engine, we saw a humpback whale breach in the near distance. We headed up towards the airport & fish farm, keeping our hearts and eyes open for whales and dolphins.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
We didn’t have to travel far! We soon spotted a humpback mother and calf diving under the water and slowly drifted in their general direction. As we waited for them to re-surface, we looked back towards the fish-farm and observed a double breach! One whale breached towards the left, and a split second later a second whale breached to the right. They had to be very close to one another, because their simultaneous breaches formed a perfect heart shape! We decided that the whales were wishing us a heartfelt Happy Valentine’s Day!
It’s all happening in Naia Bay
We turned our attention back to the momma & calf who were settling for a rest in Naia Bay. As we watched them slide under the water again, we were roused by the sight of a swarm of dolphin fins heading in our direction from the north. The dolphins were heading into Naia Bay for a cetacean party!
The good news & the bad news
It was fantastic to see the momma & baby whale, but humpback whales are protected in Hawaii. When sighted, boat captains are not allowed to put swimmers in the water in their vicinity. So, in order for us to swim with the dolphins, the mom & baby would have to leave the bay.
We donned our snorkel gear, and hoped for the best. After a few minutes, we saw that mom had swam her baby out of the bay, so we slid into the water for a dolphin encounter. It was completely understandable that the momma whale had vacated the bay… given the volume of the chattering dolphins! They noisily swam by in clusters, moving slowly but deliberately south.
The pod was slightly smaller than what we had seen over the past couple of days, yet there were still 150+ dolphins in the group. A few small podlets lingered for a few minutes, making a lazy sweep of the southern part of the bay, but the pod was heading to another location to settle for the morning. We spent about 20 minutes swimming and watching them glide through the water.
Meanwhile, momma & baby whale had slipped back into the bay. We didn’t see them underwater, but China saw them at the surface in close proximity to our group. We heard another whale singing loudly when we were in the water, even while on the surface. China asked us to climb back aboard, to meet up with the pod again in a few moments.
Looking for the Singer
We motored off the coast for a moment to determine if the singing whale was nearby, since there was a single whale offshore who looked like a potential candidate. China dropped the mike in the water and we heard singing, but not from that particular whale.
Back in the water for more fun
We tucked back into the bay closest to the fish farm, where the dolphins had settled for their morning winding-down & resting period. We entered the water, where I stayed for the next 2 hours, during which I was in constant sight of dolphins.
As they were settling down, some of the dolphins were playful & active, while others were ready for an immediate nap. I swam primarily at the surface, but dove & spun with willing cetacean participants. The close-up encounters were brief, and the dolphins weren’t yet entirely ‘into’ people, but they accepted me swimming close-by.
There was a group of 16 – 20 dolphins who were particularly noisy and rowdy. They swam mostly up & down the water column, chasing, bumping, twirling, nipping & chirping at one another in circles. They would blast each other with bubbles that expanded & exploded up the water column. I caught the bubbles in my hands at every opportunity! I absorbed the symphony of sound & movement into my body, blending more spiraling energy into my auric system.
Sleepy Time
After about a half hour, the pod mood shifted, and dolphins began to sleepily glide in mixed groups in deeper water, with occasional visits to the surface. I settled in for a long slow swim… just pacing the pod as they glided below and respectfully met them without waking them as they gently surfaced to breath.
I expected that the active portion of our visit was over, and appreciated the quiet time with such a large and magnificent pod. However, playtime wasn’t over yet! When they’d had 30 – 40 minutes to rest a bit, the dolphins suddenly woke up to play!
A Sonar Blast into my 3rd Eye
I was swimming alongside a couple of dolphins near the surface… and a third came into sight & swam directly at me while moving its head from side to side & sonaring/buzzing loudly. The dolphin made a bee-line straight at my face blasting sonar energy into my 3rd Eye and only veered at the last second to zip past me on the side.
The 3 dolphins then engaged me in an intimate game of swirling, circling, and eye-to-eye & heart-to-heart playtime. I was swimming so fast and diving down so frequently with them that my heart was practically pounding out of my chest. Their fins bumped & brushed me as we frolicked together.
One dolphin in particular was super friendly. He had a squiggle scar on the right side of his head, and he was thrilled to have a human playmate. He spun me in circles as fast as I could go and was delighted by my watery laughter. After we had danced & played for about 15 minutes, the rowdy group came to gather their compatriots, and I hung at the surface watching them all tumble and wrestle noisily up & down the water column.
Heart Smiles
Exhausted and exhilarated, I spent the remainder of the swim basking in the happy energy of active dolphins. China called us back on the boat, and we motored back to the harbor smiling from the center of our hearts
This was the dolphin-saturation immersion I had been waiting for, and my body was filled with the joyous resonance of my cetacean family. As on previous days, I meditated in the Attunement Chamber to fully integrate the day’s vibrational frequencies.
